![]() Did you ever walk in the woods When the leaves were tumbling down' And scruff your feet in the wind-piled heaps Of red and gold and brown? Did you see a squirrel in a tree Gathering and storing winter food, And far off in the soft, hazy blue Maybe a glimpse of a shadowy Robin Hood? See fences hung with grapes of purple hue, Nuts of hickory and walnuts waiting, too? Did you see a family of shy pretty quail, Or hear a rush of wings as a pheasant flew? Did you find a hidden pool, cattails' A late dragonfly, overhead cottony clouds Floating in a sky of heaven's own blue? All this is yours for the seeing, and even more, If you will walk in the woods When the leaves come tumbling down, And scuff your feet in the wind-piled heaps Of red and gold and brown. ~ Eva M.
